Anthony Spearman-Leach, “Tony,” is currently the Development & Communications Director for Montgomery Community Media, Montgomery County, Maryland’s community media center.

He has received numerous awards, including: the 2013 Diversity Scholar for the Association of Fundraising Professionals International Conference, 2015 Scholar for the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Greater Washington, DC’s Bridge Conference, 2012 and 2013 National Arts Strategies Fellow, and the national “2015 Winning Grant Proposal Competition.”

As the Chief of Communications at Michigan’s Charles H. Wright Museum, Tony conceptualized an Emmy Award winning series of Black History PSA’s that aired nationally within NBA basketball games on Fox Sports Net. During his work at Montgomery Community Media he also recently won four (4) 2017 Telly Awards and a 2017 CINE Golden Eagle finalist award.

He is known for his commitment to community service and civic engagement. Tony served in the US Senate as a Regional Director for US Senator Spencer Abraham. Detroit’s former Mayor, Dennis Archer, appointed him as the Downtown Detroit Citizen's District Council chairman. Michigan's Governor appointed Tony to two full-terms on the Michigan Board of Physical Therapy. He also received an appointment to the US Selective Service System local board by Michigan’s Governor and the President of the United States.

Tony served on many national and local boards, including The Sphinx Organization, the United World Colleges-USA U.S. Selections Committee, and Alumni Trustee of the University of the State of New York, Regents College.

Within Montgomery County, Tony is a member of the Leadership Montgomery Class of 2018, and he serves on the boards of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Business Foundation, the Universities at Shady Grove Employer Advisory Council and Johns Hopkins University's Second Decade Society. He is also a member of the Montgomery County Public Library’s Strategic Planning Committee, Montgomery College’s Communication Studies Program Committee and the Montgomery County Executive’s Ball for the Arts and Humanities Committee. Tony also serves as a Grant Reviewer for the United Way National Capital Area and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

His previous work also includes leading marketing at Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel and working in advertising at both CBS Television and USA Networks.

Tony holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and from the University of the State of New York. He is also an alumnus of the United World Colleges.
